It always surprises me how powerful the humble coffee bean is. As an inert object (not really I guess as once it was alive) it has power over many.
What I love about coffee is how it brings people together. We go out for coffee, we meet for coffee, we date over coffee and we do business over coffee.
There are so many groups around which are about coffee, and the experts that claim to know all about coffee. So what is it about coffee? Apparently the story begins with a simple goat herder (sounds familiar?) who noticed his goats were happier after eating from particular bush, and when the goat herder tried this himself found himself more alive and energetic. Thank you goats! For was it not for the goats we would not have this incredible culture around coffee.
Personally I love coffee, and I am astounded about the variations around and really wonder who is the expert in coffee?
If coffee is such a personal experience, than who am I or what am I to tell you what a good coffee is is not? That would mean that I would judge where and how you, and possible with whom you drink what coffee with and not leave the judgment to yourself in letting your personal taste buds decide what or which one you like or not like to drink.
The world is full of experts, but I personally like the description of “EX” has been under pressure. So I am definitely not going to claim to be an expert. I just love coffee, and I happen to really like the coffee we roast, and luckily many other taste buds share that same thought.
So the thought came to me, and not one of the original kind I may add, the organiser’s around Tim Cook coffee auction, who happens to be the new Apple CEO, had that original idea, something good can be done with coffee. (It happened to raise $USD 620.000,00 for a human rights charity)
What if we asked our own philanthropists here in Perth, who happen to like drinking coffee, and are well-known, possible high profile, donated an hour of their time, which is very precious to all, up for auction, and to share their knowledge whilst drinking the humble coffee?
A thought is just that, so as I am a woman of action, the thought is now being born into reality. With the likes of our right honorable Lord Mayor Ms. Lisa Scaffidi, Associate Professor Judith Fordham who is a Criminal Lawyer, as well as the Author of Life, Law & not Enough Shoes, Professor Fiona Woods MA; Director of the Burns Service of WA, and a great Entertainer who continues to do magic behind the scenes, Max Kay Ma CitWA, the list is growing. (And yes we are awaiting a few more RSVP’s to join the list of philanthropists)
So coffee and charity? In this case Telethon Institute Child health Research, Sharing knowledge over the humble cup of coffee, No judgment, a perfect example how coffee can connect people and do good at the same time.
Thank you humble coffee bean.
